Savings account or insurance plan? Compare the after-tax value
A bank deposit and an insurance-linked savings plan solve different problems and may be taxed differently. Compare net returns, access, guarantees, charges and protection rather than assuming one is always tax-free or superior.
What to check
Use the same contribution, time period and tax assumptions. Compare early-withdrawal rules, surrender values, deposit access, life cover and whether returns are guaranteed or illustrated.
What could change the answer
Headline rates and tax rules change. An illustrated insurance return is not the same as a guaranteed return, and restricted access can be costly in an emergency.
A practical next step
Ask each provider for a written net-value illustration, then choose the product that matches the goal and liquidity need.
